Notes, Domino Offshore/Outsourcing – Engagement Models
The typical engagement model is determined by two factors:
- Where the work is executed – Onsite, Offshore,Hybrid Models
- How the contract is structured – Project (short to medium term), Retained Teams (medium term) or Offshore Development Center (medium to long term)
Onsite, Offshore and Hybrid Delivery Models
Maarga works with the client to decide the best way of distributing the work on a project between multiple locations. Typically, we would prefer to do more onsite work early into a relationship, gradually shifting work to the offshore development center. This ensures that the service levels don’t suffer while the cost benefits are rolled in. Maarga’s consultants travel onsite to do Business Analysis, Requirements Gathering, Deployment and Acceptance Testing besides intermediate reviews as necessitated by the project.
Contract
We prefer to start with a pilot project where the customer would get to feel the dynamics of offshore development and then transition onto more projects leading to a retained team/Offshore Development Center. A retained team reduces the flexibility for the customer, but is appropriately priced so that the customer achieves significant cost savings even while committing for the long term.
