Maarga Systems was co-founded by Venkatesh Krishnamoorthy & Gayathri Viswanathan, in 2003. What started as a dream of two individuals has now become a mission to create world class software solutions.
The Maarga Story
After his Masters from IIM Calcutta, Venkatesh Krishnamoorthy, MD & CEO of Maarga Systems, had made up his mind to pursue a career in the computers and software field. So it is hardly surprising that his own venture turned out to be a hardcore IT solutions company.
Venky, who always had an entrepreneurial bent of mind, started to give his dream a shape and co-founded the company in 2003 with Gayathri Viswanathan, who was a chemical engineering graduate from BITS Pilani. With his non-engineering background, Venky’s experience was more in selling and consulting, while Gayathri had the required engineering background – thus complimenting each other.
In 2002, the market was down. But instead of doing something generic they took up IBM’s Lotus Notes development which was going through a lot of turbulence at that time. There was a lot of movement of technology work to India and the market had space for someone new to enter and provide value.
Focus and utilizing talent have been the strengths that have won the two respect and they are considered thought leaders in their sphere. Maarga gained a substantial foothold in Europe with projects from British Telecom, Siemens Israel and CFS Germany. Being Niche, Maarga’s services were much in demand. Subsequently their international exposure expanded through a clutch of twenty different companies in Japan, Syria and Hawaaii. By 2007, Maarga entered the US market, established a subsidiary and started making inroads. Today US is the biggest market for Maarga.Maarga grows at 52% year on year. Maarga’s clientele include Certapro Painters, Parexel, Hero Motor Corp, Dr.Reddy’s, Oman Insurance Company, QAFCO and many more.

Venkatesh Krishnamoorthy
Venkatesh “Venki” Krishnamoorthy has over 19 years of experience in the dynamic Indian IT industry in some of the biggest companies and markets. He graduated with an MBA from IIM Calcutta where he specialized in Information Systems and Marketing .Venki started his career with Wipro Infotech where he was evaluated as the best trainee across the batch of all B-School recruits. He worked in the channel management function of Wipro and got national level commendations for his sales performance in selling Apple Macintosh computers and accessories.
After Wipro, Venki shifted gears and went to work for smaller Indian software companies including Calsoft & Trigent holding responsibilities in Sales, Product Management, Consulting and Project Delivery. After stints in the Silicon Valley and Boston, Venki returned to India to head the operations as the Chief Operating Officer of Photon Infotech – a small software company with a focus on the Indian market. Venki grew Photon to focus on the US and the ASEAN markets.
Gayathri Viswanathan
Gayathri “Gaay” Viswanathan has nearly 15 years of experience in software development, definition and improvement of software processes, project management and solutions delivery to a global clientele. After graduating with a B.Tech from BITS Pilani, Gaay started her career in IBM Global Services and worked on some of their most prestigious clients including Honda Corporation.She was also part of the core team that was responsible for improving the IBM processes to SEI CMM Level 5.
Gaay undertook multiple complex projects on Lotus Notes while working on assignment with Early & Associates,a Boston based Lotus Notes consulting firm. She worked in PwC as a senior consultant in Boston helping manage PwC’s global web presence, their content management issues, publishing processes and workflows and other knowledge management issues. Gaay headed the Indian operations of Roxer, a subsidiary of Infravio, Inc. and helped with development and testing of multiple applications using J2EE and Web Services technologies. Gaay has worked extensively on multiple platforms and technologies including Lotus Notes/Domino, Java, J2EE, Web Services, Linux, C++ and Microsoft suite of technologies.
